I’m So Behind!

I’m so behind right now, I’m not sure I’m ever going to get caught up!  The reason why there was no blog Thursday night?  I had a choice between writing a post and writing my story.  I chose to write my story.  And today instead of doing the million other things that I needed to get to, I wrote my story.  It feels good to put the writing first and everything else behind it.  Usually it’s the other way around because I feel too guilty letting things sit, but I’m going to learn to give that up because my writing has to come first.

I’m sure you’re all wondering what I decided on the time travel story, and believe it or not, I actually did make a decision this weekend.  It helped to talk with another writer and to listen to her comments and thoughts.  And the plot choice winner is….

Drum roll please.

Setting the time travel on Jarved Nine!

It was the one I was really more excited about writing, but I had logic issues.  After talking it out, I feel confident that I can overcome them and the other potential issues that time traveling to an alien planet will cause.

I have my heroine’s name after a long stretch where I wondered if she’d ever show up.  She adjusted her last name today because I had that wrong.  The hero and I have reached peace on his real first name–he goes by a nickname.  I was trying to get him to use something else, but he disagreed.  He won.  And I think I have the set up for the story.

This, however, wasn’t what I wrote today.  I’m still working on my Polynesian story.  That was the one calling to me, and while I tried to work on the time travel, I just couldn’t find any traction.  This week sometime for sure, though.

Hi, Patti. One of the reasons I love reading other writer’s blogs is because I feel a sense of comraderie I can’t find elsewhere. If I told some people that my character insisted on the name Selia even after I tried to change it several times, they’d think I was nuts. (Maybe I am but that’s not the point)

I’m glad you’re making progress even if you are behind. This week I threw away my timetable because I was so behind I didn’t think I could catch up without pulling an all nighter or selling the kids to the gypsys. I made a new, easier one, now I’m on schedule. : ) I hate that ‘gotta catch up’ feeling.

Good luck and thanks for the blog!

I like reading your blog because as a reader it gives me insight into your characters.

Your writing definitely should come first. It’s what defines you.

Most of us all feel guilty about something. With me it’s housework.

    Hi Shawna,

Oh, absolutely! People who don’t write, well, their eyes glaze over when I start going on about the writing. I suppose I could not say as much, but once I get started, I get enthused, and you know how that goes. :-)

It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one who has characters who are stubborn. Sometimes rearranging the schedule is the best thing. I don’t know how you do it with five kids. I have trouble sometimes just with writing, promo, working full time, and the house. One more thing would be too much.

I visited your blog, BTW. I’ve gotten into gardening, too, and I love that picture you have in the blog header. Is that your garden?

    Patti

Thanks, Joyce! I love talking about my characters. Given the opportunity, I will run on and on about them. It doesn’t help that I know so much more about them then what I put in the book and I love to share that info somewhere. :-)
