I know I’ve shared a lot of space-related videos lately–what can I say? I’m a space geek–but I hope you’ll bear with me for another. This one is a little long, but it talks about Kepler 22B, the planet that was found around a star very similar to our sun and orbiting at a distance that makes it possible for there to be life here. There’s a lot, though, that astronomers don’t know yet about the planet. This video talks about what they do know.

Well, Let’s Find Out!
Sunday, March 11th, 2012Hang Ten
Sunday, February 5th, 2012The first thing that caught my eye here was the waves. This is an incredible view of Mother Nature’s sheer power. After I stopped going, wow, the next thing I noticed was the cinematography. It’s another wow when I think about how you get yourself in position to film something like this. The third thing that caught my eye was the actual surfing. Yeah, I know, but I think this is more a video about the waves than about the surfing.
Another little factoid that made this video interesting to me, it was shot at Teahupoo. That’s Tahiti. I have this heroine who’s half Tahitian and her father and mother were headed to French Polynesia. Her father’s main interest in going was catching the surfing competition at…you guessed it…Teahupoo.
Mean Disney Girls
Sunday, January 29th, 2012This came through on Twitter a few weeks ago and I thought it was pretty good, so I’m sharing.
Large Hadron Collider Rap
Thursday, December 29th, 2011Y’all know I’m a major geek–I make no secret of that. For a while now, I’ve been riveted by physics, particularly M Theory. To test some of their hypotheses, tests have been done at the Large Hadron Collider in Europe. Want to learn a little more about it? There’s a rap song for that.
Sydney Harbor in Office Supplies
Monday, March 14th, 2011This video is really cool. It might be a commercial from Australia, but I’m not 100% certain of that.
Are You Tough Enough?
Tuesday, December 14th, 2010The video below is the snow I’m having to deal with after more than 17″ were dumped on the Twin Cities over the weekend. I know I got more than 17 inches at my house, but this is the number they’re going with for official tallies. This makes it the 5th largest snow storm on record, BTW.
At first, I intended to narrate the video as I filmed, but decided all you’d hear is my teeth chattering if I tried to talk while I was outside. This morning, it was -13 degrees here and that’s air temperature, not wind chill. The high this afternoon was something like 9 degrees. I’m already tired of being cold and dealing with snow and this stuff will probably be around until the end of March. ::whimper::
Is it any wonder all my computer wallpapers are pictures of tropical islands?
Are you tough enough? Minnesota snow:
Monty Python Meets Star Trek
Friday, December 4th, 2009I don’t usually post videos, but this one is too good not to share. It covers a lot of my geekiness with both Star Trek and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. If you look at related the related videos, you’ll see another one that’s a mash-up of Star Trek and The A-Team. That one’s pretty good, too, but the Python one is my fav.
Hivinau
Friday, July 31st, 2009I received copy edits today for my April 2010 release, In the Darkest Night. This is a little earlier than I thought they were going to show up and I’m going to be really busy for the next 2 to 2.5 weeks.
In that vein, I’ll try to answer comments over the weekend, but I’m not going to have time tonight. Also, I didn’t get a chance to write a blog post today, so I thought I’d share a video. This is the hivinau dance from Tahiti and it makes me think of the Work In Progress (WIP).
Sharing Edge of Dawn Video
Monday, June 15th, 2009The book trailer for Edge of Dawn has been ready for a really long time and it’s been difficult to sit on it, but the book comes out June 30th and I wanted to wait until closer to its release to share the video. And without any more introduction, here’s my book trailer:
Having this out and available makes me think about starting the video for Kel’s book, but I’ll resist. It doesn’t come out until next March.
And They’re Off
Friday, December 19th, 2008I finished copy edits for Edge of Dawn on Monday and sent them off to NYC on Tuesday. Everything went faster than I’d thought it would, but I was pretty organized in advance. I did a final read through–that’s what held them up a day–but it was a good thing I did. I found I’d crossed out the wrong paragraph in one spot. Oops. I fixed that and fiddled with word choices. All that’s left to do now on the book is proofread the test print of the book in a couple of months. This is where I enlist my mom’s help because it’s so easy to not see missing and/or extra words. My brain seems to put them right in.
As I left the Evil Day Job (EDJ) for Fed Ex on Tuesday at lunch, it started snowing. By that afternoon when I left the EDJ to go home, traffic on the freeway was at a standstill. It took an hour and a half to get home. I handled it okay, though. I didn’t think the roads were that bad so I wasn’t all that stressed and I had my iPod plugged in to the car stereo and listened to a couple of lectures from UC Berkeley on Earthquakes. I got hooked and now I’m working my way through the rest of the course.
I think I’m through lecture seven now.
We’ve had a lot of snow in MN this month, particularly in the last week or week and a half, and I’ve had to get up early nearly every day this week because of snowy roads. And I’ll be doing the same thing tomorrow because there’s another storm scheduled to roll through tonight.
Still working on setting up the new laptop, but the important stuff like word processing software and antivirus protection is on there, so I’m good until I have more time.
And to close out, here’s a cute video for y’all.
